Gears of War E-Day Patch Notes: Launch Update

Gears of War: E-Day is live on October 6, 2026, and players may need a launch update after installing the preload. This page separates confirmed release information from older beta notes so you do not mistake a test-build workaround for a guaranteed retail fix.

What to do before playing

1. Open the Xbox app, Microsoft Store, or Steam and check for an update.
2. Fully quit the game before applying the update; a suspended process can keep the old build open.
3. Install the PC version on an SSD and update your graphics driver.
4. If the game still will not start, repair or verify the installation before changing protected game files.

Confirmed official fixes and changes

The Coalition's official open-beta update listed improvements to stability, matchmaking, hit-detection delays in Horde Siege, third-party controller recognition on Steam, Microsoft account linking, and Xbox Series S hitching. It also documented mitigations for the drone-snub connection error and changed the relevant network requirement from UDP 443 to UDP 3074.

Those notes were published for the beta. They are useful context for launch troubleshooting, but they are not a complete retail patch changelog. The live build can contain additional fixes, and later updates can change the behavior described here.

If the update does not appear

Do not open network ports just because a generic guide lists them. Only troubleshoot UDP 3074 when you are actually seeing the documented drone-snub connection error, and check your router or ISP settings first.
